Is Salli the right chair for me?

Sitting on the right chair is crucial in having good posture and improving your working day. Salli Saddle chairs have a two-part divided seat which you can simply adjust the height of with the gas cylinder.

There are three different sized gas cylinders available to easily adjust the height of the chair. The short cylinder is recommended for people shorter than 160cm, the medium one for people between 160-180cm and the large one for people over 180cm.

My new Salli chair has arrived. How do I assemble it?

Congratulations on your great choice! You do not need tools to assemble the chair. The chair has only three parts and is very easy to assemble.

You will receive an instruction manual with your chair; please read it carefully.

If you purchased your chair in winter, let the gas cylinder warm to room temperature before assembling the chair?

How should I sit on a Salli chair?

Getting on and off Salli

Stand beside the chair, lift one leg over the chair, from the back to the other side
of the chair and sit down. To get up, move your feet slightly forward and stand
up. This way the chair remains behind you.

Sit high enough

In the beginning you can lift the chair too high, so that your legs are not touching the floor. Lower the chair slowly till your feet are firmly on the floor. There is now about a 135-degree angle in the knees, and between the thighs and the upper body.

The wide angle enables you to tilt the pelvis forward and maintain the natural curve in the lower back. If you are sitting too low, it is easy to keep the feet in the front, not on the sides, and this often results in a slouched position and the rounding of the back.

Sit on the back of the chair

When sitting your buttocks should be at the back edge of the chair. If you sit too far in the front, the edges of the middle gap press the inner thighs and genital area. In the right position the sitting bones are on the softest place on the seat where the padding is the thickest.

Keep your feet on the sides

Riding-like sitting is aiming at the same position as when we are standing; when looked at from the side the shoulder, pelvis and heel are on the same line.

If the feet are in the front, the back is often rounded into a wrong position. Moving the feet to the sides makes the pelvis tilt forward, enabling the natural curve in the lower back and straightening the whole back.

Table and monitor height

On Salli you are sitting higher than on a traditional chair, which usually means that the standard (72 cm) tables are too low. The chair is of no use if you have to slouch towards the table, so you need to be able to raise the table somehow. Salli’s best friend is an electrically adjustable table that can be brought up to the standing height.

Move!

You can move sideways easily, when you push with the one foot and pull with the other.

Why is it difficult to sit on a saddle chair in the beginning?

The sitting position differs a lot from that on a traditional chair. Instead of being passive the muscles work actively. You may have sore muscles and tissues after starting a new sport or going to the gym; the same happens when you start sitting in this new way.

When you first get your Salli Chair it is important to ease yourself into it. It is suggested that for the first day you spend just 1 hour on the chair, increase the time by 30 minutes each day after that. After 7 days your body would have adjusted itself to cater to the correct posture and you can now sit on the Salli chair for long periods of time without aches and pains.

Persistence is the key though! The results will be worth it!

How long is it safe to sit on a saddle chair?

There is a misconception that you shouldn’t sit on a saddle chair for more than two hours a day. This however is false for the two-part seat Salli saddle chairs. This saddle chair is designed with a seat providing benefits to the health of your body and creates pressureless sitting. This means you can sit on the saddle chair for the whole working day safely and enjoy the benefits the chair provides.

Why is there no backrest in the Salli Saddle Chair? Will my back get tired?

In riding-like sitting the posture of the back is automatically correct and therefore there is no need for a backrest. The pelvis is in the correct position, which makes keeping the back upright as easy as if we were standing or walking; we do not need any backrest when we are standing either. In a chair with a backrest the thighs and upper body form a steep 90-degree angle, which makes the pelvis tilt backwards. Then the back becomes rounded, the position makes the back tired, and that makes us lean on the table and round the back even more.

Why does the chair feel hard?

If you are new to sitting on a Salli then you may feel pressure on your sit bones as you adjust to using the chair.

If the chair feels hard around the sitting bones it may be too high for you. Then the whole weight of the upper body is on the sitting bones. It is best to sit with feet firmly on the ground because then the feet carry part of the weight. Be aware of not adjusting the chair too low, as then you may tilt your pelvis backwards and that rounds the back into a bad
position. The chair may also feel hard if you sit too far towards the front.

Your buttocks should be towards the back of the chair. Then you can tilt the pelvis forward, which improves your position. Find a sweet spot that works for you.

Why is there a gap in the middle of the Salli Saddle Chairs?

This allows men to sit on Salli saddle chairs safely. The patented gap also enables men to tilt the pelvis into the natural standing posture without feeling pressure in the genital area. In addition to the chair being more comfortable to sit on, it improves the genital health of both genders through improved circulation and nerve functions. The gap also makes the chair cool and well ventilated.

How should I use the levers on my Salli SWAY Saddle Chair?
Can I wear a skirt when sitting on a Salli Saddle Chair?

A tight skirt prevents you from sitting in the healthy riding-like position where you keep your feet on the sides. A loose and stretchy skirt or a wraparound skirt enables sitting on Salli.

Clothes that are too tight are not recommended in sedentary work because they weaken circulation.

Why does Salli need to be accompanied by a higher-than-normal working desk?

On Salli you sit 15–20 cm higher than on a traditional chair. The natural curve is possible when both the knee angle and the angle between the thighs and the body is 135 degrees, and that happens automatically in riding-like sitting.

If your desk is too low you will bend over or slouch - not good for your posture!

We highly recommend an adjustable table/desk, or at least a table that is higher than normal, to be used with Salli Saddle Chairs. Only then can you fully benefit from the chair.

How do you clean the Salli SWAY chair?

The Salli SWAY chair seat is made of artificial leather. Therefore, please wipe clean with a soft, dry cloth.

What are the 3 gas spring options on Salli SWAY chair?
  •  Short (people below 160 cm in height)
  • Medium (people between 160-180 cm in height)
  • Long (people 180 cm and above in height)
